Car Hit by Passenger Train, Driver Dies

A passenger car with two persons inside drove in front of Tallinna-Tartu express train before 10 AM this morning at Kaarepere level crossing. The driver of the car died and the passenger was taken to a hospital.
Agu Lall, PR Officer of the Police and Boarder Guard Board told that the person killed in the accident was a man born in 1970 who was driving a Volkswagen Passat. A woman riding in the car was taken by an ambulance to the hospital.

VW Passat that was driven by Peter (born 1970) was driving from Jõgeva towards Tartu and started to cross railway tracks while the level crossing gates were already descending. The car was hit by Tallinn-Tartu express train approaching from the Tallinn direction.

As a result of the accident, the train dragged the car for approximately 900 metres. The locomotive driver said that the train was moving at 110 km/h.

The passenger car driver was killed on spot and his passenger, Epp (born 1938) was injured. The passenger was removed from the car wreck with the help of rescue personnel and taken to the hospital. She was released after providing first aid. Both of the persons riding in the car used proper safety equipment.
