Lorry Driver Dies in Collision with Train

Today, in the morning of on 16 April 2010 was killed a lorry driver who drove at a level crossing with no gates in front of the Tallinn-Viljandi passenger train.

According to preliminary information, a Man lorry drove to the Tammemäe level crossing at 8.20 AM and was hit by the passenger train, explained the PR Officer of Northern Police Prefecture to Delfi.

In the accident was killed the lorry driver, a man of 37 years of age. Delfi’s reporter said that the train was dragging the lorry for almost a kilometre.

Nobody in the passenger train was injured and train traffic has been restored.

The accident took place during daylight hours. The police wants to remind all motor vehicle drivers that they should slow down while approaching railway crossings in order to be convinced that there is no train coming. In such danger situations it is impossible for train drivers to avoid accidents.

The train passengers were picked up by two buses and taken to Kiisa.
